Forthose with a sweet tooth embarking upon a trip to Taiwan, a visit to Miyahara- the plush dessert outlet in Taichung is a must-visit destination. Nestling on the busy thoroughfare of Zongshan Road in Central district of Taichung, the upmarket outlet opened sometime in 2012 and it’s definitely not a hangout zone for the hip and the happening crowd. It is hugely popular for exotic Taiwanese sweet delights.

Being the second largest city in Taiwan, visitors usually go to Taichung and once you’re in the city, Miyahara should not be given a miss. The elegant dessert outlet has an entire array of mouth-watering chocolate and pine apple pastries, cakes, ice creams, cookies and sweet delights made out of sesame. I tried the sesame delight. It’s a bit bitter but definitely a new gourmet experience. Another speciality is the sun cake with fruit and tea flavours. There are 17 different kinds of chocolate ice creams that would boggle the imagination of food connoisseurs. The USP of the glitzy outlet is that every sweet delights are well-placed on racks and come in attractive packaging. For those looking forward to take back home, the sweet delights of the outlet serve as great gift pieces.

For high-end luxury travellers wending their way to Kaohsiung, the luxury destination is 85 Sky Tower Hotel. The five-star property serves as a home for travellers visiting Kaohsiung.  I had an unhurried experience of halting in the hotel on my visit to Kaohsiung.

Taipei's Dihua Street

Shopping wonders in Dihua Street

Shopping is definitely not the first thought that comes to mind of tourists on a trip to Taipei since there are a plenty of heritage attractions in the city. During my Taipei sojourn, a visit to Dihua Street, the oldest thoroughfare in Taipei made me change the concept of the place. In fact, Dihua Street nestling in Datong district of Taipei enjoys the distinction of having a slew of popular grocery stores. It exudes an old-world charm and takes you back into the past. It is one of the ideal shopping hub for those on the look out for Chinese stuff.

The moment one enters Dihua Street one gets a strong pungent odour of shark fins, dried meat, dried fish, squids and birds nest. For vegans, it’s a bit uncomfortable feeling but one gets to know a lot. The street has long rows of shops selling Chinese medicines. Besides, there are scores of stores offering dry fruits at an unbelievably cheaper price than the Indian market. There are raisins, spices, nuts, herbs, mushrooms, traditional Chinese medicines, wall hangings, bamboo and wooden craft items.

 Dihua Street is notably one of the streets where one can shop for the world-famous Formosa Oolong tea with a strong flavour that the British had introduced in Taipei. Herbal medicines are quite popular here.The street also has a fabric market.

Luwansa Beach Resort: where luxury and nature meet

A Lion Air Flight from Denpasar made me reach Labuan Bajo in West Manggarai Regency of East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia sometime in the summer month of 2016.  A smooth 5 km drive from Komodo Airport took me to Luwansa Beach Resort- the four-star haunt with its own beach, lovely villas, spacious rooms, sea-view bar, landscaped garden and a swimming pool. The luxury property serves as a perfect panacea to urban complications that we can’t seem to tangle.

The new hotel sprawls over 8000 metres on Pede Beach. There are sun loungers with sea view accommodations. The sea-facing restaurant serves Indonesian delights. One can get immersed in the sun-kissed beach for hours overlooking Flores sea. Strolling on the beach in the morning hours is the best way to rejuvenate oneself. While having dinner, the cool breeze blowing from the sea is quite soothing for tired minds.

For those travel junkies yearning for a memorable stay in any beach resort of Malaysia, there cannot be any better option than heading to Langkawi. I had a chance to head to Langkawi during my brief sojourn to Malaysia and halt for a couple of days at Langkawi Lagoon Resort.  For those high on luxury quotient, the best option would be to stay at this luxury beach resort that unfolds the spectacular beauty of sea, sun and sand on Andaman Sea in the midst of tranquillity.

Around 3km from Langkawi International Airport, the four-star luxury property has two kinds of accommodation facilities- beach front suites and sea village. I had put up at sea village where there are spacious rooms with private balcony, flat screen television with satellite channels and kitchen with microwaves and refrigerators.

The units in sea village are erected on stilts with typical Malay architecture and complete room amenities. These units are built in the premises of calm water and are protected from the open sea by break water.  There are free wi-fi facilities and one can soak in the serene ambience of the beach with the cool waves lashing the shore. Immerse into the world of luxury and nature

Around four years ago, when I had headed to Penang, I was in luck to have an experience of a luxury stay at a five-star beach resort popularly known as Shangrila’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa. Nestling on Batu Ferringhi Beach on Jalan Batu Ferringhi, Rasa Sayang in Bahasa connotes the feelings of love. After landing at Penang International Airport from Kuala Lumpur, I headed to Batu Ferringhi Island. I was completely awestruck by the sheer magnitude of the well-known resort and the kind of luxury accommodation that was on offer.

The picture-postcard Batu Ferringhi Island in Penang is only 45 km drive from Penang International Airport. The picture of white sand and blue azure waters of the sea meeting the eye from the spacious hotel room will make the travellers sink into the world of luxury that remains etched in the mind forever.

I halted for a couple of days in the beach resort that provides some unforgettable views of the beach on the Straits of Malacca. The hotel rests in a secluded paradise surrounded by a canopy of trees and one can enjoy fascinating views of the sea from the room.

Well-equipped with more than 150 rooms, Rasa Sayang serves a fusion of contemporary and authentic  Malaysian art and its swanky fine-dining restaurant serves a whip of Malaysian delicacies and not to mention the South Indian delights served on request.

A trip to Pulao Tioman in Pahang state of Malaysia gets more convenient for those opting to stay at the five-star property- Berjaya Hotels and Resorts in the island.  Pulao Tioman or Tioman Island is around 50 miles from Mersing jetty on South China Sea. One can also fly down from Kuala Lumpur to Pulao Tioman that has an airstrip at Tekek hamlet. I recall my first visit to Malaysia in 2010 when I headed to Tioman Island after a two-hour long cruise on South China Sea.

Once I reached the island, I made it to Berjaya Hotels and Resorts by island transportation bus. I halted at Berjaya Hotels and Resorts, a huge sprawling complex with many duplex apartments made of chalets. There are a lot of adventure activities for tourists at Berjaya Tioman like cruising glass-bottom boats and snorkelling at Renggis Island. Besides, tourists can also take up cycling and trekking around the island and play golf at Golf Spa and Resort. I took out time to laze around Berjaya Tioman Beach nearby.   The five-star haunt has Sri Nelayan Coffee House that serves an astounding array of tantalizing International and Malaysian cuisine.

Tioman is rated among the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world and is surrounded by lush greenery all around. It records heavy rainfall during  monsoon when the sea water gets choppy.
